| The Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations (KFTA) and the Korean Ministry of Education successfully co-hosted and organized the 32nd ACT+1 Leaders’ Meeting at the-K Hotel Seoul, Korea in 27-28 February 2016.
At the leaders’ meeting, KFTA and seven other ASEAN teachers’ organizations chose this year’s theme as “Expansion of Quality Education in ASEAN and Korea through Character and Global Citizenship Education.” This year’s ACT+1 Convention will be held from September 18 (Sunday) – 20 (Tuesday) at the-K Hotel Seoul. The convention expects to have more than 500 participating educators, scholars and policy makers from Korea and ASEAN countries.
The ACT+1 Convention, also known as ASEAN Council of Teachers, was first held in 1979 in Bangkok, Thailand and is held on an annual basis to discuss and share ideas to develop teachers’ proficiency and global learning environment. Since KFTA joined the convention in 2009 and became the first non-ASEAN regular member in 2012, it is timely for KFTA to organize the upcoming convention in Korea. KFTA would like to work more for the advancement of ASEAN education.
The convention is composed of teacher organizations from Republic of Korea and nine ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam). This convention would provide valuable opportunities for participants to expand their knowledge on the history and future perspectives of education in ASEAN countries and Korea as well as further build international networks.
